Merry Belated Christmas! π
Wishing you all a merry Christmas and...asking for your assistance in figuring out what the best non-Christmas Christmas movie is!
Hi everybody - I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas - filled with people (real or virtual), relaxation, food, and whatever else you may have asked Santa for! π
As you are now emerging from the post-festivities bliss, it is time to discuss something very serious: What is your favorite non-Christmas Christmas movie?
Please go and vote in my Twitter poll on this critical topic. I am hoping these results will influence the in-flight movie selection should you be traveling during this time! π
Three Seasonal Web Exercises
Now, you may feel a strong urge to write some HTML, CSS, and JavaScript during this time. If you find yourself in that spot, here are three suggestions that seem appropriate for the season:
1. ASCII / Text Pyramid...err Christmas Tree (Link)
This text-based pyramid doubles up to also look like a Christmas tree. As a bonus, you can consider adding a trunk to the bottom of the pyramid to give it even more of a tree-like appearance:
This is a Coding Exercise, so feel free to submit your solution to collect a cool badge!
2. The Falling Snow Effect (Link)
Complement your text-based Christmas Tree from above with gently falling snow. If you want a flashback to this effect from 2004, the friendly folks at Web Design Museum donβt disappoint:
3. Animating Items Around a Point (Link)
In the Going Further section, we take this effect all the way to the North Pole with rotating cookies, snowflakes, reindeer, and other seasonally appropriate visuals:
The techniques we will learn to pull off this effect are pretty foundational, so do take some time to understand more deeply what is going on here!
Till Next Time
Before we call it a night π (or morning π€), I just want to say a huge Thank You to all of you who have allowed me into your online world for many Christmases since 1998!
I always enjoy hearing from readers like you, so feel free to drop by the forums and say hello.
Cheers,
Kirupa π
